JOB: Minnesota Avenue Project Sioux Falls, South Dakota
CONTRACTORS: Ames Construction and T & R Contracting
One of the Busiest Streets for Traffic Volume in the State of South Dakota
T & R contracting of Sioux Falls won the bid for the project, which was a one mile stretch of urban paving involving approximately 10,000 square yards of concrete.
"We knew it would take a lot of cooperation between our company, business owners along the street and the public," Terry Gulbrandson, President of T & R Contracting said. "It was one mile of new concrete pavement and new water mains that service all the businesses. Part of the contract called for us to keep traffic moving head-to-head, with minimal interruptions and keep access open for all the businesses as well."
To get the job done, T & R put its Bid-Well 3600 Paver to work. There were doubts about it at first, because of its size. But the doubts quickly faded.
"We've had the 3600 for a couple of years. It worked really well. We thought it might be a little small for the project, but it handled it exceptionally well.
"It was small enough so it was easy to move around in the tight areas created by the urban paving, especially in the need to keep traffic moving."
The bottom line was a finished roadway that lived up to its promise.
"We met all the specs and they were really impressed with the ride."
T & R also purchased the new Bid-Well Texture Curing Machine for this project. Gulbrandson was equally impressed with the machine's quality of work and the labor savings his company experienced.
"It was excellent. It saved us so much work. It made the texturing on the project look so uniform. Everyone was very happy with the appearance. It saved a tremendous amount of labor costs as well as doing such a beautiful job. We are very impressed with the Texture Curing Machine. I don't know how we got along without it before."
The combination of the Bid-Well 3600 Paver and the Texture Curing Machine along with excellent sub contractors and a tough schedule resulted in a successful outcome for T & R.
"We finished the job a month and a half ahead of schedule and right on budget. We also got bonuses for finishing ahead of schedule. That 3600 paver, you wouldn't think anyone would do a project of this size with a smaller machine. We were a little skeptical about it at first, but it pulled through and showed us it could do the same work as the big machines."
T & R's Bid-Well experience extends from the job site to the service call.
"We have a real good relationship with Bid-Well. We call them and talk to them. They do all they can to help us. We always have good service, they never let us hang."
The future for T & R will include more work, and Bid-Well pavers.
"We looking at bigger projects and buying a bigger Bid-Well too. But we're going to keep this 3600 for our smaller projects and, of course, the Texture Curing machine. They've been working pretty darn well for us so far." |
